video installation: double projection of photographic films
produced during a residency with Espacio Vilaseco
sound + 35mm photographs
two lineations is a video installation made of two synchronized photographic films originally produced during a residency with Espacio Vilaseco (Galicia, ES) for the exhibition on becoming amphibian (2024). Weaving 35mm photography and field recordings, the films draw a counter-cartography of the ecologies of Chantada and its surrounding region by directing the attention on overlooked axes and the environments they bridge. The films begin in unison meandering in the Sil Canyon before encountering a dam. From there they split and follow two different paths through the Galician landscape; one lineation made of power lines, the other of flowing waters. A face to face which reveals how these lines originating from the dam form a discreet union between the stork and frog populations.
When shown the films are screened facing each other or side by side.
Below: an excerpt of Diserens’ eponymous book on becoming amphibian in which the idea of two lineations emerges. And photographs documenting how two lineations was presented during Diserens’ exhibition on becoming amphibian (Espacio Vilaseco, ES, 2024).
